Faster Reading for Success
The average student reads too slowly—about 170-220 words per minute. This makes reading a chore. When reading slows, comprehension suffers. Slow readers take twice as long to complete assignments. They struggle to finish in-class tests and score poorly on timed tests like the ACT because they cannot finish. In contrast, skilled readers read 400-600 words per minute or more and skim over 1,000 words per minute.
Our speed reading instruction turns slow, distracted readers into fast, motivated readers.
IN OUR SPEED READING CLASS (OFFERED BOTH IN GROUPS OR ONE-ON-ONE SESSIONS) STUDENTS LEARN TO
- Double their current reading rate
- Vary their reading rates depending on what they are reading and why
- Improve comprehension and recall
- Gain confidence
- Achieve control over each reading task
